Have you ever had to use a project management tool such
as ms project? Using SAPs module doesn't mean that you will loose
all the data entered in MS Project 2000. SAP and Project2000 can communicate
with each other. You can use the new Microsoft Project Central Server
to log tasks, project status and other value data around a project.
The german company SAP has set with R/3 the standard for the development
of modern enterprise requirements applications - a multilingual, multinational
client/server technology that meets all business requirements for
scalability, portability, openness and high performance.
The increasing need for clear information on its implementation and
use is growing rapidly but ressoueces such as books are coming up
slowly. Managing projects using SAP R/3, specifically its integrated
Project System (PS) module, can be a great job. But what if the implementation
or the project to implement it goes bust?
Who will they blame? I you weren't able to get a PS training they
will go at you. Even worse - you do not know how to fix it. So you
migt get into this situation as a SAP novice, or an experienced user.
The first question before even concidering the purchase of this module
must be the acceptance viariance in your business and the size of
potential users. Will its ROI be large enough to justify the investment
in purchasing licences, consulting hours and internal man power. In
many cases Microsofts Project solution will give you a first lift
off into a professional multi site project management technique.
If this gets too large and fuzzy then it is time to think abour SAP.
do not go for it just because SAP is a trendy toy. Some market scientists
even talk about a follow up rival being developed by a open source
community. Similar to linux this can mean quality at a low price.
