Final
Review
This is not the first book I have had to revew on PDA topics. I
usually have to get one or anohter PDA to work. They can be tricky
in a corporate environment. So many tools fighting for a small amount
of recources. This makes it difficult to think of actually going
as far as programmming for OS plattform a network solution.
The wireless revolution has touched off a huge demand for Palm
OS network applications. But information on how to connect a Palm
is fragmented across dry function listings in the SDK documentation,
a couple of book chapters, some sample code, and a few articles
on the Palm web site (each of which assumes prior knowledge of network
applications).
It doesn't mater if you mix handspring or other pda's not produced
by Palm. What matters is the functionality, OS release and your
PC environment. I have had ideas such as blasting scheduled events
into outlook but how about getting this trouble passed asid by your
own code.
I have seen an example of such programming skills by ConSol GmbH
- how wrote a PDA Sync server to allow engineers working with a
call managenment system to take cases with them. What is easier
that to enter data in the pda - get back to the office and click
to sync. It is not important how to program - but to know what you
want to create.
First analyse the business requirements - find causes of trouble.
Start planing and find fellow mates to join you in a challange to
build this system.
Palm OS Network Programming pulls all the necessary elements together
in the first complete guide to developing network applications for
the Palm Computing Platform. The author assumes knowledge of Palm
programming in C, but no network experience is required. You'll
learn Palm network concepts such as transport protocols and client-server
applications from the ground up, clearly illustrated with examples
using Metrowerks CodeWarrior development environment.
Most businesses are working towards windows 2003 server or better
known as the .NET idea. The Palm Net Library, essential to any network
application development, gets the detailed treatment it deserves,
with sample network applications demonstrating how to make the best
use of this powerful system library.
