Final Review
This book is the right book to start working with tomcat. I have been
using tomcat as an application server to run a corporate support &
CRM solution. Up till now hardlyanybody could answer major questions.
At last I will be saved from drowning!
Well written and easy to understand although as an IIS used guy I
did need to move into a more unfamiliar realm. I am used to using
Active Server Pages (programming them) and at the same time use html
and java code to manage a powerful workflow engine (developed by consol).
there has been some trouble with tomcat 4.0 but 4.1 is better (unless
you ignore on W2k sudden death- restart services).
The book covers these areas:
Introduction.
PART I. TOMCAT CONFIGURATION AND MANAGEMENT.
Chapter 1. Introduction to Tomcat.
Chapter 2. Installing Tomcat.
Chapter 3. Configuring Tomcat.
Chapter 4. Hello World Wide Web.
Chapter 5. Anatomy and Life Cycle of a Servlet.
Chapter 6. Configuring Web Applications.
Chapter 7. The server.xml File in Depth.
Chapter 8. Managing Authentication with Realms.
Chapter 9. The Manager Application.
Chapter 10. The Model-View-Controller Architecture.
PART II. TOMCAT DEVELOPMENT.
Chapter 11. JavaServer Pages.
Chapter 12. Tag Libraries.
Chapter 13. MVC with Struts.
Chapter 14. Template Systems.
Chapter 15. Session Management.
Chapter 16. Databases, Connection Pools, and JDBC.
Chapter 17. Database-Aware Objects.
Chapter 18. Security.
Chapter 19. The Development Cycle.
Chapter 20. Developing Web Applications with Ant and XDoclet.
Appendix A. Server Configuration (server.xml) Reference.
Appendix B. The Deployment Descriptor (web.xml) Reference.
You csan see by this that you can find and use this information guide
as areference for daily work.
