  Final Review

This guide to IT project management has been well thought through. A lot of emphasis has been put on soft skills such as managing crisis scenarios. The more calculation area of PM has been worked through a bit more basic. This is compensated by many excel bases exercises included on CD. The exam prep kit gives you a good idea how well prepared you are.

Nevertheless you need to study a lot. From own experience I must say that even with real world experience, it is not guaranteed to lead to a successful passing of the exam.

But I must stand aside and protect all books I have reviewed until now! it is not their fault if you fail an exam. It is a painful experience to see 220 € fall to pieces.

I give the blame to the multi cultured business we work in. No, by multi culture I am not talking about peoples culture, nationality or colour. It is the way bosses make us PMs take decisions. PMs have had to take routes that are a waste of time or money just because their bosses feel like going this path.

I have experienced team leaders mess up my team building measures just because they must let everyone in the team know that they are the fat cat.

Not every team leader or project lead or manager is blessed with skills needed to motivate and manage the teams continuous development. But being blessed with soft skills is not all to project management. You need to be able to get projects in on time.

Try to get a module for your project? Try getting it for 50% of the regular price. This a task I have to regularly undertake some times it works and some times it doesn't. But is nice to hear a satisfied project sponsor grin at the sight of a 50% bargain for a complex solution. If he tells you that you are doing great work because you are blessed with a superb purchasing policy. Then you know what is one of the most soft pleasures of working as a PM.

The book covers the principles of management, budgeting and leadership of IT projects and IT professionals. Each chapter features interviews with experienced IT project managers from Eli Lilly, Motorola, Compaq, Microsoft and others.

In order to make a book or an article easy to read you must add humour and interesting stories. This is the case with Joseph's book. As IT Project+ certified MCSE, MCT and CTT+ he has lots of books on his credit.

The accompanying CD-ROM includes project management exercises for each chapter, templates, and sample files.
