Forensic services are devised to reseach existing data and organisational structures which can lead to corporate crime. The experts needed for such assistance are for most the IT specialists who can actially gather the necessary information so that legal and CID experts can evaluate the existing situation.
The larger the organisation the more data a technical researcher (i.e. F-Tech) has to process by importing the data from financial systems (e.g. SAP FI) and running several tests. The key difficulty arisies not just during the process of importing data from often highly customized systems but also differenciating between unusual events and standard business activities. No company is going to deliver identical events which show criminal acts. What might look like a criminal act might be a seasonal response to market influences.
This highlights the importance of an Analyst knowing how organisations operate and what is the actual nature of the business process network. Not even direct competitors will have identical internal workflows and habbits.
Nevertheless, forensic work is a thrilling field to work in.
