Protecting yourself from intruders

  Who goes there?

Have you ever noticed people passing by who you don't seem to know?

Red Alert!
Who goes there?

Can anyone just come into your security room?

I know that you do not belong to the military intelligence or the armed forces. But nevertheless you must protect yourself from intruders.

It is part of your job to protect that load of data being processed on those servers!

It is not enough to install a firewall.

You might reply:

But I have a card controlled door!

Can any one ring a bell?

Lorries can explode

or drive away with your servers!

Of course you could ...

Some one might get in not necessarily get away with a complete server. But doesn't a spy system do the job?

Set up cameras in and outside the security areas.

Try to combine classic cameras with webcams to monitor systems incase your monitoring room is destroyed.

Protect in sections

Set your protection measures into calculated and sectioned parts. Don't just let anybody walk into your building without getting a visitor's ID card.

Set up multiple card operated doors and designate different clearance levels required to get into different sections of your building.

If you have made an emergency plan and have set up protective elements you should think about all your infrastructure.

Try to find weak points and eliminate them if possible.

This article should make you think about protecting your infrastructure from intruders.
